Semesters in Canada

Postby international1 » Fri Jul 22, 2016 7:00 am

When do the semesters start and end in Canada? Are there any trimester colleges in Canada?

The Semesters and their start and end dates are as follows:
- Fall semester is September first weekend through December 15th-ish. Depends on when your exams end.
- Winter semester is January first weekend until about the end of April.
- You get about two weeks at Christmas and one week in the middle of February as a break.
- Summer term is from May to July or June to August.

A "trimester" divides the academic year into three periods, separated by breaks.
Some schools in Canada run on a trimester system, the first running from September to January, the second from January to March or April, and the third from March or April until June. The trimester is more common in elementary and middle schools (Kindergarten - Grade 8) than in high schools (Grade 9 - Grade 12).
Some, such as University of Waterloo and Simon Fraser University, run a full tri-semester system, providing full courses during summer.
Some other Colleges and Universities which have trimester system are George Brown College, Seneca College, Centennial College, University of Toronto etc.
